Lublin airport breaks records in 2024: new routes, expanded services, and growing popularity
“We strive to consistently expand our network of connections in this highly competitive market, increasing the range of flights each year, particularly during the summer season. This effort is producing tangible results. I’m pleased that the year ahead looks promising. Starting at the end of March, new routes to Rome and Barcelona will be added to our network,” said Krzysztof Matuszczyk, President of Lublin Airport.
Looking back at last year, December 2024 saw more passengers at Lublin Airport than the same month in 2023, with 26,133 travellers compared to 22,800 in December 2023. Notably, from June onward, the airport broke records month after month. August became the busiest month in the airport’s 12-year history, with 56,892 passengers. In total, nearly 280,000 passengers were served during the holiday season. The number of flight operations also increased, reaching 4,800 in 2024 compared to 3,700 the previous year.
The 2024 holiday season at Lublin Airport was unusually long, as charter and seasonal flights began in late April and continued until late October. The Turkish resort of Antalya was the most popular destination, while flights to Greek islands such as Rhodes and Crete, as well as Monastir in Tunisia, were also highly sought after. New to the network last season was Hurghada in Egypt, located on the Red Sea. Additionally, passengers from Lublin Airport could travel to other popular holiday destinations in southern Europe, including Split in Croatia, Burgas on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, and Bergamo in Italy. Flights to Gdańsk on the Polish coast also remained in high demand.
“Our holiday statistics demonstrate that the offer we prepared aligned very well with the expectations of travellers and local residents. I consider this a success for our regional airport,” emphasised President Matuszczyk.
Airlines operating from Lublin Airport include Ryanair (which celebrated its one-millionth passenger from the airport in October last year), Wizz Air (offering flights to London), and LOT (providing daily flights to Warsaw). This year, Italian airline Aeroitalia will join the roster, offering a connection to Rome. Initially, flights between Lublin and Rome will operate twice a week, increasing to three times a week during the peak summer season.
“It’s worth noting that Fiumicino Airport is Rome’s main hub, providing connections to other destinations served by Aeroitalia, including Sicily, Sardinia, and even Romania, all on a single ticket,” said Marek Pierściński, Commercial Director of Lublin Airport.
Meanwhile, Ryanair will launch a year-round route to Barcelona-Girona starting on 31 March. The airline also operates flights from Lublin to London, Dublin, Milan, and Gdańsk during the summer season.
“We are witnessing the growing importance of Lublin Airport on Poland’s aviation map and are delighted to support the region by providing more routes and travel opportunities. The new connection to sunny Barcelona is an attractive addition to our existing destinations from Lublin. This vibrant Spanish city offers a wealth of attractions, whether for an extended weekend or a longer holiday. We hope to continue growing at Lublin Airport in the coming seasons, expanding our network of connections and providing Lublin’s travellers with even more travel options,” said Alicja Wójcik Gołębiowska, Country Manager for Ryanair in the CEE & Baltics region.
To celebrate the launch of the 2025 summer flight schedule from Lublin Airport, Ryanair has introduced a three-day promotion with ticket prices starting from PLN 125, available exclusively on ryanair.com. The promotion began on 16 January and will run for three days.
Last year, the company also sought new revenue streams by opening a cargo terminal. The investment cost nearly PLN 18 million and enables the facility to handle all types of air cargo.
Lublin Airport boasts several advantages. It holds the status of an international airport and is equipped with a Category II Instrument Landing System (ILS), enabling operations in challenging weather conditions. Additionally, the airport is well-connected to international and express roads, as well as rail networks. Its location near the eastern border of the European Union, close to major border crossings, is another significant asset.
