Taking off: Lublin Airport’s 2023 triumphs and 2024 plans
August stood out as the airport’s best month in terms of passenger numbers, setting a new record in its history. The success was attributed to the popularity of holiday flights, and the outlook for the new year appears equally promising.
It has been a very intense year for our airport. Despite the challenges in the aviation industry, we surpassed the passenger numbers of 2022, reaching 330,000 people. August witnessed a historic high in passenger traffic, reflecting the positive reception of our holiday offerings., said Andrzej Hawryluk, the president of Lublin Airport.
The boost in airport activity was fueled by new holiday connections, including flights to Rhodes, Greece, and Monastir, Tunisia, introduced from June. Notably successful were the frequent flights to Antalya, Turkey, operated four times a week. Lublin Airport also provided access to popular Southern European tourist destinations such as Split in Croatia, Burgas on the Black Sea, and Bergamo in Italy. Flights to Gdańsk over the Polish coast remained consistently in high demand.
Responding to the increased traffic, the airport expanded its parking facilities, adding nearly 100 spaces just before the commencement of the holiday season.
Looking ahead to Summer 2024, Lublin Airport anticipates an even more enticing holiday flight offering. New destinations, including Hurghada in Egypt and Crete in Greece, will be introduced to the network from June. To meet the high demand for flights to Turkey, Lublin Airport plans to operate five weekly flights to Antalya from late April to October.
In terms of infrastructure development, Lublin Airport is on track to complete a significant investment in a modern cargo terminal this year. The facility, costing close to 18 million Polish złoty, includes a warehouse and handling hall spanning approximately 2,000 square meters. The terminal will feature dedicated spaces for handling special goods, ramps for unloading trucks, an office building, and a maneuvering area with access roads and sidewalks.
President Hawryluk highlighted the strategic focus on diversifying revenue streams through investments in cargo services. The new cargo facility is expected to streamline shipment handling, support an increase in cargo traffic, and facilitate enhanced business connections. This move aligns with Lublin Airport’s commitment to meet the evolving needs of freight forwarders and offer efficient services to producers and recipients in the region.
