U.S. Ambassador Mark Brzezinski with official visit to Lublin
Today’s visit of the American ambassador is an important event for Lublin. The meeting was an opportunity to present the potential of our city in all the dimensions of its functioning, including the part of the activities implemented within the framework of the European Youth Capital. However, the most important topic of the visit was issues related to the political situation in Ukraine and the ongoing war, as well as the role of Lublin as a support centre for refugees. Together with the representatives of the Lublin Social Committee for Aid to Ukraine, we had the opportunity to present our current aid activities and indicate the challenges related to the refugee crisis, says Beata Stepaniuk-Kusmierzak, Deputy Mayor of Lublin for Culture, Sports and Participation.
At the Lublin City Hall, Ambassador Mark Brzezinski met with Beata Stepaniuk-Kuśmierzak, Deputy Mayor of the City of Lublin for Culture, Sports and Participation, employees of the Center for International Cooperation and Social Participation Office and representatives of the Lublin Social Committee for Aid to Ukraine, which was represented by Kristina Yonauskaite of the Homo Faber Association and Pavel Sieniow of the Rule of Law Institute Foundation. The last point of the delegation’s agenda was a visit to the A. & J. Vetter Economic Schools with the participation of Mariusz Banach, Deputy Mayor of the City of Lublin for Education and Upbringing, Polish and Ukrainian youth and Ukrainian teachers working in Lublin schools as part of the “Cash for Work” programme, funded by the American organisation CARE.
The visit to Lublin began with a lecture by the U.S. Ambassador at the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, as part of the “Diplomatic Talks” series. The lecture, followed by a discussion on contemporary international relations, was attended by employees and students of the university. Mark Brzezinski, during his visit to Lublin, was accompanied by Jeanne Briganti from the American Embassy, who deals with cultural affairs.
