‘miasto.to’ (the city.is) is a continuation of “The Creatives” project, which has explored the potential of Lublin creative sector over the last four years. Since 2013, during the four editions of the project, almost 50 creative Lublineers have been presented in the form of photo and film stories about unique activity and unconventional business solutions on the borderline of crafts and arts. ‘The Creatives’ have won hearts of Lublin audience. Its best example was the Opera Hall filled to the brim during last year’s Gala, which special guest was the international expert on urban creativity Charles Landry. During his impassioned lecture, he talked about Lublin as a creative city, and the event was concluded by the signing of the first in Europe and the second in the world city creative manifesto miasto.to.

In this year’s fifth edition of the event, we decided to uncover the unknown Lublin in the characteristic way of 12 short film stories to present the new fascinating face of the city in which we live and of which 700 years of history we are particularly proud this year. The special guest of the event will be Dimitri Roussopoulos, an outstanding Canadian thinker and activist who highlights the essence of the city’s civic participation and the subjectivity of its inhabitants. On October 18 in the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures Opera Hall, he will talk about the citizens’ right to the city: to create a unique urban culture and democratic institutions, to take part in the participatory management, and to be part of a worldwide emerging movement that emphasizes the importance of cities in today’s world. Before the evening gala, at 2 PM in the Screening Room will be held a mayoral debate, during which mayors Krzysztof Żuk (Lublin), Wojciech Szczurek (Gdynia), and Wadim Tyszkiewicz (Nowa Sól) will talk with Dimitri Roussopoulos about the city as the cradle of freedom, solidarity and social development.
